Africa Hunt Lodge allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest Trophy Red Hartebeest on our concessions in South Africa. The Limpopo Province of South Africa is the premier destination in the World to hunt the Red Hartebeest. There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Red Hartebeest in South Africa, which makes it a suitable trophy year round.

Our hunters typically hunt the South African Red Hartebeest in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Red Hartebeest Hunt. We typically hunt Red Hartebeest Safari Style, Spot and Stalk, or by Still Hunting if you are a Bow Hunter. We can accommodate all methods of Hunting for Red Hartebeest including Rifle, Bow, Black Powder, Crossbow or Handgun. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.

The Red Hartebeest which we hunt on our South Africa Concession are the biggest in the World. You can expect a 21-23 inch Red Hartebeest on average when hunting with us, with some each year exceeding 23 inches.

The Red Hartebeest (Alcelaphus buselaphus caama) is a species of antelope native to southern Africa.

What do Red Hartebeest look like:

Red hartebeests are large antelopes with a reddish-brown coat. They have short horns that curve backwards and are about 20 inches. Their bodies are slender with long legs that are adapted for running from predators.

Red Hartebeest Habitat:

Red Hartebeests are found in open grasslands, savannas, and arid areas of South Africa. They like areas with good grazing opportunities and access to water.

Red Hartebeest Diet:

Red hartebeests are primarily grazers, feeding almost entirely on grass. They are not very selective and they are tolerant of poor-quality food. During drought periods they may also browse on leaves and shrubs.

Red Hartebeest Behavior:

Red hartebeests are found in small herds consisting of females and their offspring, and sometimes a dominant male. Male hartebeests can also be found in bachelor herds. They are known for their excellent hearing and eyesight, which help them be aware of predators. They can run up to 55 km per hour if in danger.

Red Hartebeest Reproduction:

Breeding is year round, and peaks in the rainy season when there is more food. Hartebeests give birth to a single calf after being pregnant for 8-9 months. The calves can stand and run shortly after birth and are nursed by their mothers for a few months.
