Africa Hunt Lodge allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest South African Vervet Monkey. Year round, we offer hunts for the peculiar Vervet Monkey. There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Vervet Monkey in South Africa, which makes it a suitable trophy year round.  Additional Hunting permits are required to export the Vervet Monkey from South Africa, so we request that our hunters let us know in advance of their Safari if they wish to hunt these monkeys so that we may process the necessary export paperwork and hunt license.

Our hunters typically hunt the South African Vervet Monkey in conjunction with a 7-10 day African Safari. One of our Experienced and Licensed Professional Hunters will be your guide during your Vervet Monkey Hunt. The preferred hunting caliber for a Vervet Monkey Hunt is a .22 or .223 rifle. We have those calibers available in South Africa so no need to carry 2 guns over for a Monkey Hunt. Vervet Monkeys, also called "Blue Ball Monkeys" are plentiful in our area of Limpopo, so hunting them makes a nice add-on to any Hunting Safari.

We typically hunt Monkeys Safari Style or from a Blind...the Vervet Monkey's travel in large groups, so we will be able to find the older males from the group. Many of the these Vervet Monkey raid our Orange crops in the Fall and Winter, so culling out these monkeys is of great importance to us. We can accommodate hunters of any age and experience level.

The vervet monkey (Chlorocebus pygerythrus) is a medium-sized monkey native to Africa.

What do Vervet Monkey's look like:

The vervet monkey has a small black face, with an olive/slivery-gray body. The face, ears, hands, feet, and tip of the tail are all black as well. They have a white fringe around their face that blends in with its short whiskers.

Vervet Monkey Habitat:

Vervet monkeys are found in savannas, woodlands, and mountainous areas. They like areas along streams, rivers, and lakes as well. These monkeys are highly adaptable and thrive in both natural and human-altered environments.

Vervet Monkey Diet:

Vervet monkeys are mainly herbivorous, enjoying barks, flowers, fruits, leaves, and grasses. They will also occasionally eat rodents or hares. Their diet varies depending on their habitat.

Behavior of the Vervet Monkey:

Vervet monkeys live in groups consisting of around 10-50 males and females. Their groups have a social hierarchy, and the dominant individuals have priority access to food and mates. Vervet monkeys will spend most of their day on the ground looking for food, or sleeping in trees.

Vervet Monkey Reproduction:

Breeding occurs all throughout the year, and females will typically give birth to a single offspring after a 6 month long gestation period. The young monkeys are cared for by their mothers as well as other individuals in the group.
